Description of the Office
The Executive Office of Ethics Monitoring at Kotebe University of Education was first established in mid-2006 E.C., at the former Kotebe University College, under the Office of the President, to be headed by a director at the work unit level.
Even though the office started its work years after the establishment of an independent governmental body (Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission) which was capable of investigating and prosecuting, checking and preventing corruption and other improprieties, to control and promote good conduct in the society at the national level by Proclamation No. 235/1993, it has been discharging its responsibilities in the University, in carrying out the task of preventing corruption and building good morals.
The name of the office has also changed during these times. When the institution was a university college, it was first organized as the ethics and anti-corruption unit, then the ethics and anti-corruption directorate when it transitioned to the Metropolitan University, and the ethics monitoring executive office when it transitioned to the education university.
The Executive Office has the following duties and responsibilities based on its mission. Namely, carrying out ethics building and anti-corruption activities, conducting corruption vulnerability research, monitoring and enforcing online wealth reporting and registration, implementing systems to prevent conflict of interest, establishing a corruption information generation system, implementing systems to safeguard informants if there is threat on persons who give information to the Commission, ensuring ethics in the institution and preventing corruption and corrupt practices. In order to properly fulfill this Duties and Responsibilities, it works by focusing on institutional capacity building, ethical building, corruption vulnerability risk study and corruption information management and service.
