About the Deparment

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry in Kotebe University of Education, the Premier Education University in Ethiopia. The Department was established in 1963 as one of the foundation Departments of the Kotebe College of teacher education (the former name).  The Department has grown from its humble beginning to its present state of being not only the oldest Chemistry Department in the university.

The Department is a service Department to all science-based faculties and offering education in chemistry in the University and offers degree leading to BED, and MED. The Department has graduated thousands of students since inception and graduates of this Department have provided skilled manpower for most Universities in Ethiopia, and continue to contribute to the development of the nation in many areas of Education, research and government establishments. The Department takes pride in its teaching excellence and its development of distinguished Chemistry educator experts. With 22 academic staff members (including 3 associate professors), and over 140 active students in all programs.
