Description of Languages Education College
College of Languages Education (CLE, hereafter) is one of the five colleges in Kotebe University of Education( KUE, hereafter) structured in a new way pertinent to the unique mission given to KUE. The CLE is fundamentally structured to mediate between the Academic Affairs Vice President Office and the three language departments which are under its close supervision. Under the CLE’s office leadership, therefore, key services like facilitating the three core processes, such as firmly participating in the teaching-learning process, undertaking education focused researches and providing community services following the university’s binding compulsory document ,i.e. KUE’s Legislation.
The college provides undergraduate programs in Amharic, English and Oromo languages and literature in all modalities. It also offers postgraduate programs in Amharic and English
languages and literature. The college has more than 1,200 students enrolled in all modalities. With 51 academic staff and 3 supportive staff, CLE tries its level best to produce professionals who will be responsible to strengthen the teaching profession in a better way.
Our university, Kotebe University of Education, is currently striving to achieve quality education by undertaking both students and staff’s evaluations, conducting thematic researches tilting to languages’ characteristics which help the college/university identify the major gaps that hinder quality education and ultimately encouraging the academic staffs to look for practical solutions to sustain quality education.
The research works being undertaken in our university in general and those thematic ones done in our college in particular can play a paramount importance in a way that they depict the gaps which demand the stakeholders’ intervention which they could ultimately derive a policy brief to tackle similar challenges in the years to come.
