About the President

Dr. Teshome Nekatibeb is a seasoned educational expert with extensive experience in teacher training, educational policy analysis, academic leadership, and international education development. He earned his PhD in International and Comparative Education from the University of Stockholm, Sweden, and a postdoctoral research certificate from the University of Kassel, Germany. At Addis Ababa University, he served as Associate Professor and founding Head of the Center for Comparative Education and Policy Studies, where he also established the first PhD program in International and Comparative Education. In this role, he partnered with the Swedish International Development Agency, Stockholm University, and the University of Gothenburg to run a distinguished PhD program whose graduates now serve in leading national and international institutions. Dr. Nekatibeb has served in multiple senior leadership roles in international development. In Ethiopia, he contributed to the USAID/BESO project as an expert in policy analysis, monitoring, and evaluation, later becoming Deputy Chief of Party for Technical Programs, M&E, Research, and Organizational Learning. In Jordan, he was Senior Specialist for M&E in the USAID Early Grade Reading and Mathematics Program (RAMP), leading large-scale learning assessments, including EGRA for both Jordanian students and refugee children. In Afghanistan, he served as Senior Education Advisor and later as Senior Project Director of the Afghan Children Read (ACR) program, funded by USAID and implemented by Creative Associates International. In Yemen, as a USAID/BEST consultant, he developed the Performance Management Plan, trained project staff, designed institutional mechanisms for M&E, and advised on the country’s first National Learning Assessment. His short-term advisory services include assignments with the World Bank, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNFPA, SIDA, and the African Union. Academically, he has served as a PhD students advisor at AAU, UNISA (South Africa), external examiner for universities in Sweden and Norway, and external project evaluator in Tanzania.
