Department of Amharic Language and Literature
Overview
Since its establishment, the Department of Amharic Language and Literature (formerly known as Ethiopian Languages and Literature) has been dedicated to educating Amharic language teachers. At ealrier time, when the institution operated as Kotebe College of Teacher Education, it offered both degree and diploma programs in Amharic Language Teaching for those who chose to be teachers. For the past two decades, the Department has also delivered mother tongue courses to all diploma program students, who were prospective primary school teachers. More recently, the Department has launched an MA program in Teaching Amharic (TeAm) followed by an MA in Ethiopian Literature and Folklore.
