Description of the Directorate

1. Introduction

There is a strong need to have a self-standing national University of Education dedicated to the advancement of education by addressing the deep rooted quality problems and the many historical, cultural, social and political challenges that have restricted our country‘s progress in education for many years. Cognizant of this repeated demand, the Parliament (HPR) of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia endorsed a proclamation No. 1263/2014 (October, 2021) which came out with a change of the name of Kotebe Metropolitan University to be Kotebe University of Education (KUE), the mission and accountability of the University.  This proclamation clearly signaled that the University needs to undergo a paradigm shift in all of its mandate, vision, and missions, academic programs and structure.  The University of Education produce quality graduates from across all disciplines of education to meet the nation’s education human resource needs and beyond.  It was believed that the newly established KUE will have the mandate to:  produce education workforce, conduct impactful research in education, produce policy options, advise government on matters related to education, design state of the art teacher education and leadership development programs and innovative practices, and serve as a resource center for other educational institutions.  KUE will have the following Vision and Mission.
