(KUE, August 27, 2026) A four-day capacity-building training program organized by Kotebe University of Education (KUE) in collaboration with the Shaggar City Education Office has officially commenced. The training focuses on Effective Educational Leadership, Creating Effective Learning Environments, and Educational Data Literacy and is designed for school leaders and educational experts.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. Teshome Nekatibeb, President of Kotebe University of Education (KUE), warmly welcomed the participants to the university and emphasized that education is a continuous process of improving and strengthening knowledge and empowering students. He urged the participants to make full use of the training, which plays an important role in enhancing their professional knowledge, skills, and capabilities in the education sector, and encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills gained from the training to make meaningful contributions to their schools, their students, and the wider community. He also expressed his appreciation to the Shaggar City Education Office for collaborating with KUE to organize the training.
Dr. Teshome Adugna, Mayor of Shaggar City, stated that Shaggar City is entering a new phase of development aimed at achieving rapid, broad-based economic growth and delivering efficient services to its residents. He emphasized that education plays a crucial role in achieving and sustaining this transformation and noted that the city administration has given special attention to the training while working closely with Kotebe University of Education over the past several years in the areas of training and research. He stressed that education is the foundation of all development and that school leaders and educators have a major responsibility to bring about positive changes in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviour while empowering students. He therefore urged the participants to engage actively in the training and follow it with strong commitment so that they can contribute effectively to the continued development of education and the city.
Mr. Firakiya Kasahun, Head of the Shaggar City Education Office, stated that the Education Office has been implementing a range of initiatives to develop competent, skilled, technology-oriented, and professionally capable citizens who can compete successfully in the field of education and beyond. He noted that, among the Grade 12 students who took the national examination this year, 25 percent passed, placing Shaggar City second after the Addis Ababa City Administration. He emphasized that the training is crucial for further improving the quality and effectiveness of the teaching and learning process and for achieving better educational outcomes in the years ahead.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Tewodros Mulugeta, Vice President for Research and Community Engagement; Dr. Shimelis Zewde, Vice President for Administration and Development; and other university officials. Dr. Teshome Tolcha – Director of Research Publication Ethics and Integrity and Dr. Teshome Kondale, Director of the Institute of In-Service Training, also participated in coordinating the program, together with Dr. Zerihun Takele, Deputy Head of the Shaggar City Education Office.
The four-day training, being held from August 27–30, 2026, is expected to bring together more than 322 educational leaders and school principals.
