(KUE, November 18, 2025) – Kotebe University of Education (KUE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and UNESCO IICBA, conducted a capacity-building workshop for 15 course developers and 6 core team members. The workshop, themed “Enhancing Teachers’ Capacity in Conflict-Affected Areas,” focused on preparing course developers to design fully online and mobile-app–based training materials for teachers in Amhara, Tigray, Afar, Oromia, and Somalia.
Dr. Teshome Nekatibeb, President of KUE, officially opened the workshop and welcomed the delegation from the MoE and UNESCO. He reaffirmed KUE’s commitment to delivering impactful and sustainable educational solutions for crisis-affected communities.
Dr. Eyueil Abate, principal investigator of the project, stated that the project aims to support teachers in these conflict-affected regions through fully online capacity-building training designed to function in low-bandwidth environments using an edge-computing system. This ensures that teachers can access courses and receive certification upon completion.
The event was attended by KUE’s high-ranking officials and Delegates including, Dr. Temechehegn Engida and Mr. Solomon Aragie from UNESCO IICBA, as well as Mrs. Aseged Meresa, and Mr. Petros Melaku from the MoE.
KUE will develop five fully online, mobile-adaptive courses aligned with the frameworks of UNESCO IICBA and the Ministry of Education. These courses will be contextualized and translated into the respective regional languages. The courses include: English, Mathematics, General Science, Environmental Science, and Instructional Leadership.
