(KUE, February 2, 2026) — Kotebe University of Education (KUE) has launched a three-day Training of Trainers (TOT) for Alternative Teacher Training Program (ATTP) for selected trainers from various colleges, who will subsequently train participants within their respective colleges.
The training was officially inaugurated by the President of KUE, Dr. Teshome Nekatibeb, who stated that the Alternative Teacher Education Program has proven to be successful in other countries. He emphasized that, in addition to the regular teacher education pathway, the program provides a valuable opportunity for professionals trained in other fields who wish to join the teaching profession. He further explained that the program will help address the country’s high demand for teachers.
Dr. Teshome also urged the trainee trainers to undertake the training with strong commitment so that they can effectively transfer the knowledge and skills they acquire to trainee teachers across the university’s colleges.
On the occasion, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Alebachew Kemiso, briefed participants on the objectives, overall content, and implementation approach of the training. He called on both the trainers and concerned officials to ensure that the training is delivered with high quality and dedication.
Similarly, the Vice President for Research and Community Engagement, Dr. Tewodros Mulugeta, stressed that all stakeholders should play their part in making the university’s work in this area exemplary and impactful.
Meanwhile, Mr. Petros Melaku, an education expert from the Ministry of Education, provided explanations on ongoing efforts in teacher education, the challenges encountered, and the remedial measures being undertaken.
This three-day TOT aims to establish a shared understanding and provide orientation on how the training for the incoming ATTP trainees will be conducted. It covers a wide range of issues, including the foundations of secondary school education, instruction, curriculum, assessment, and subject-area teaching methods, English for secondary school teaching and learning, and related areas.
