(KUE, November 26, 2025) — Kotebe University of Education (KUE) College of Business, Technology, and Vocational Education organized a grant-writing experience-sharing event aimed at strengthening research capacity and improving access to external funding.
During the opening session, KUE President Dr. Teshome Nekatibeb emphasized the importance of the program, noting that grant writing is a key skill for mobilizing resources for research. He highlighted that effective grant proposals require clarity, strong justification, and a well-prepared structure. He further stated that the ongoing institutional reform at the university should prioritize comprehensive and problem-solving approaches.
Dr. Eba Mijena, Director General of Academic Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Erasmus+ focal point, delivered a presentation on the criteria of Erasmus+, a major European Union funding program. He underscored that successful grant writing begins with understanding the donor’s mission, requirements, and timeline. Dr. Eba also outlined the current priorities of Erasmus+, including the Green Deal, Digital Transformation, Integration of Migrants, Governance, Peace and Security, Human Development, Sustainable Growth, and Employment.
Dr. Yitayal Addis, Managing Editor of the KUE Journal of Education and Coordinator of the Pastoralist Education Centre, shared insights on small-grant writing practices. A panel discussion followed, where participants stressed the importance of dedicating adequate time to proposal development, respecting deadlines, understanding donor expectations, demonstrating strong project design and implementation plans, maintaining persistence and professional ethics, and learning from unsuccessful proposals as preparation for future applications.
The workshop concluded with the awarding of certificates of recognition. Dr. Alebachew Kemisso, KUE Vice President for Academic Affairs, reaffirmed that grant writing is vital not only for the university and its scholars but also for the country’s development. He also extended appreciation to the organizers and participants for their contributions.
