Kotebe University of Education in collaboration with the Teacher Education for Inclusion and Quality in Ethiopia (TEFIQ) program, has successfully concluded a three-day Curriculum Revision Workshop held from November 11–14, 2025, at Canopy Hotel in Adama City.
The workshop focused on revising the curriculum using an outcome-based approach and integrating principles of special needs and inclusive education. During the discussions, participants emphasized that the curriculum revision must align with the Ministry of Education’s directive on Outcome-Based Education (OBE). The revised curriculum of 2018/ 2025 should clearly define the competencies students must acquire throughout their studies and the professional capacities they should demonstrate upon graduation.
The discussion emphasized the need to prepare graduates who can serve as effective teachers, school leaders, and skilled professionals. One proposal suggested integrating courses across programs. For instance, students in Educational Leadership and Management and English Language composite degree program can graduate with both leadership competencies and strong English language expertise. This would enable them to leave the program with complementary qualifications, potentially serving both as educational leaders and English language teachers.
It was also learned that the Outcome-Based Curriculum is designed to address special needs education, pedagogical skills, and inclusive education. The outcomes of the workshop will be compiled into a formal report and submitted to the Ministry of Education, contributing to national-level efforts and serving as a model beyond KUE.
During the closing session, Dr. Ahmed Esmael, National Advisor for Teacher Education; Dr. Bekele Werkie, from the College of Educational Sciences; and Dr. Germa Belachew, Director of the Academic Programs Directorate, all noted that the workshop was highly productive. They emphasized the need for continuous professional development, research competitions, and academic publications to ensure that the entire university community becomes fully aware of the principles and practices related to outcome-based curriculum design, special needs education, and inclusive education discussed during the workshop.
