KUE Hosts Curriculum Validation Workshop for Four New International Programs

(Addis Ababa, December 8, 2025) — Kotebe University of Education (KUE) hosted a curriculum validation workshop for four new undergraduate programs at Yod Abyssinia Hotel. The programs reviewed were the BSc in Climate-Smart Agriculture, BSc in Urban Development and Smart Cities, BA in Public Diplomacy and Peacebuilding, and BSc in Digital Technology and Innovation—all of which will be offered under the soon-to-be-established Institute of International Education.
The workshop brought together external reviewers from Uganda, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopian Public Service University, and the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, alongside internal reviewers, curriculum developers, and invited participants.
Opening the event, Dr. Alebachew Kemiso, Vice President for Academic Affairs, welcomed participants and highlighted the significance of the workshop. He noted that although KUE has undertaken several internationalization initiatives in the past, many were ad hoc. The establishment of the Institute of International Education, he emphasized, represents a major step toward strengthening KUE’s global engagement and enhancing its continental impact as Ethiopia’s only pedagogical university.
Dr. Alebachew added that the new institute aims to attract international students and experts from across Africa and beyond, fostering collaboration and cultural exchange. International students, he said, will have opportunities to interact with Ethiopian peers and experience the country’s hospitality—ultimately becoming ambassadors who reflect positively on KUE and Ethiopia. He also encouraged the reviewers to offer constructive scholarly feedback to ensure the proposed curricula meet international standards.
Closing the workshop, Dr. Teshome Nekatibeb, President of KUE, expressed gratitude to the review team and underlined the importance of the new programs in advancing international collaboration.
Participants and reviewers actively contributed scholarly insights, with facilitation by Dr. Fekede Tuli, Dr. Girma Belachew, Dr. Mesfin Dejene, and Dr.Yifru Waktole. The curriculum team appreciated the constructive feedback provided.
