KUE kicks off Workshop on Outcome-Based Curriculum Development

(Adama, November 11, 2025) – Kotebe University of Education (KUE) through its College of Educational Sciences in Collaboration with Technical Assistance for Teacher Education for Inclusion and Quality in Ethiopia (TEFIQ) has launched a three-day workshop at the Canopy Hotel in Adama City aimed at reforming the university’s curriculum into an outcome-based system.
Opening the workshop, Dr. Girma Belachew, Director of KUE’s Academic Programs Directorate, noted that an outcome-based curriculum focuses on achieving specific, measurable learning results. He added that it defines the essential knowledge and skills students should gain over their four years of university education, preparing them to perform effectively in the professional world.
Speaking at the event, Marja Matero, Chief Technical Advisor of (TEFIQ), emphasized that an outcome-based curriculum must prioritize special needs and inclusive education to ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students.
Dr. Ahmed Esmael, National Advisor at TEFIQ, noted that the outcome-based curriculum reform is essential to enhance inclusiveness and improve the overall quality of education at the national level.
Dr. Bekele Werkie, dean, College of Educational Sciences at KUE, highlighted that the national curriculum harmonization effort aims to make it both outcome- and competency-based. He stated that this reform will produce competent graduates equipped with practical skills and knowledge relevant to real-world challenges.
The launch event was attended by members of the KUE, TEFIQ, and Stakeholders from the Ministry of Education.
It is worth recalling that on October 1, 2025, KUE and TEFIQ held a briefing Session to discuss collaboration on Teacher’s education, and Inclusive education initiatives.
