(KUE, January 14, 2026) — The Kotebe University of Education (KUE)-led FAITH Project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE), has launched a leadership training program focusing on curriculum development, industry linkage, and leadership practices for leaders of Universities of Applied Sciences (UASs) at the Stay Easy Plus Hotel.
Opening the program, Dr. Teshome Nekatibeb, President of Kotebe University of Education, welcomed participants drawn from various universities. He highlighted the long global history of university establishment, governance, management, and educational differentiation, emphasizing that sustained capacity-building efforts are essential for Universities of Applied Sciences to achieve their intended missions.
Dr. Teshome further stressed that the training program should go beyond discussion and translate into practice, particularly in areas such as curriculum design, performance improvement, motivation, community service, and leadership development. He also called for the FAITH Project’s continued and strengthened support in building the institutional capacity required to meet the goals of applied science universities.
As part of the program, Professor Abebaw Yirga presented a research-based session on Curriculum Development in Universities of Applied Sciences, while Mr. Fasil Woldegiorgis addressed Industry Engagement in the Context of UAS. In addition, Professor Handel Kai and Professor Zegele Frank, invited experts from Germany, led sessions on Leadership in Universities of Applied Sciences.
During the discussions, Professor Abebaw Yirga noted that the effective design and implementation of curricula in applied science universities require coordinated management of human resources, financial systems, and infrastructure. He underlined that such alignment is crucial to producing graduates who can respond to the evolving demands of the labor market.
