At the Kotebe University of Education, twenty-five young women recently completed an intensive two-month “Empowering Female Students in ICT and Electronics” camp, running from April 1 to May 31, 2025. This pioneering initiative aimed to equip participants with foundational skills, encourage STEM careers and foster a spirit of innovation.
The comprehensive program delved into two crucial technological areas: ICT and Electronics. Under the ICT theme, participants gained hands-on experience in introductory visual programming, website development, and mobile app development. The Electronics theme introduced them to basics of electronics, Internet of Things (IoT) via Microbit programming, and Arduino programming. Through this practical, project-based learning, the girls honed their problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, significantly enhancing their digital literacy and STEM experience.
The camp culminated in a vibrant exhibition on June 7, 2025, held at the university, where the students proudly showcased their innovative projects in both engineering and programming.
The event also featured a spirited competition, with winners receiving awards from Dr. Birhanemeskel Tena, President of Kotebe University of Education. This impactful program was made possible by the generous sponsorship of STEMSYNERGY. Such initiatives are crucial in bridging the gender gap in technology and inspiring young women to become the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.
